It might be hoarding! 
I’m about to clean out the bookshelves in my office to make way for new carpet. So I’m wondering, how do you decide which of your books to keep and which to give away?
I read on my kindle and use the library to avoid book clutter, but I must admit that I have shelves of books that I love. Now I find myself having to make hard choices about what to keep and what to let go.
Also, there is a trend toward book collecting – it seems mostly among Gen X or younger millennials – to  collect special editions with sprayed, stenciled, or painted edges with patterns and colors.  My son, who is 29, loves the look and feel of books and keeps many on his shelf, including special editions.How do you feel about this?
I’m more inclined to buy an older edition of a beloved book than a new one that looks beautiful – maybe reflective of my age?? I was reading a recent Instagram post where the Bookstagrammer was showing collectible additions of Avon books with beautiful “clinch covers” that you don’t see until you open the book. The artwork spread was two pages wide, showed a couple in an embrace, and the art was just beautiful!
A reader told me on Facebook that since her husband died, she’s taken joy in collecting pretty editions. This made me think in a fascinating way that reading can be a tactile (holding a book) and visual (art) experience and not an experience based solely in our imaginations.
